Are you ready to observe one of the greatest concentrations of bird species in their natural habitat?
Enjoy tropical birdwatching along the river at dawn - the time of day when exotic birds are most active.
You will wake up early for this unforgettable experience, increasing your chances of spotting some of the more than 1,500 bird species found in the region. The excursion begins with a boat ride to one of the Amazon River’s tributaries. Keep your eyes open for species such as the Wattled Jacana (Jacana jacana), Ringed Kingfisher (Megaceryle torquata), Black-collared Hawk (Busarellus nigricollis), and many more.
Please note that a significant number of bird species are found exclusively in the Lodge’s surrounding area, including the Bare-faced Ibis (Phimosus infuscatus), which had never previously been documented in the country.
We offer specialized 5-day and 7-day birdwatching programs. Contact us for more information.

- Yanamono Communal Reserve
- Amazon River Islands
Embark on an exciting expedition to one of the world’s most remarkable ecosystems: Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve. Covering 57,600 hectares and located just 20 km from Iquitos, this reserve is globally recognized for its extraordinary biodiversity and for hosting the largest concentration of white-sand forests, locally known as varillales.
Despite its relatively compact size, the reserve is home to more than 490 bird species. It is truly a paradise for birdwatchers, where new species continue to be discovered each year.
This expedition is complemented by visits to the Amazon River islands surrounding Yanamono Forest, including Hondococha, the island in front of Heliconia Amazon River Lodge, Caño Cáceres, Quebrada Manco, and the forest areas around the Lodge itself - where more than 150 bird species have been recorded.
